Building Yourself up in God
Jude 1:20-21 But you, beloved, build yourselves up in your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Beloved, how are you today? Are you full of joy, peace, courage, and ready to take on all that God has for you today? Or are you struggling, wondering how much longer your situation will be the way it is? Are you walking in faith? Or does it seem like God is far away from you not caring about the issues in your life? Regardless of where you feel like you are, I assure you, there are steps that every single Jesus-following believer should be implementing in our daily lives that will help us walk closer to Jesus and to help us walk in the Spirit.
There are three points that Jude makes that I want to talk a little bit about. The first is to build yourselves up in your most holy faith. How do we do this? We read God's Word. We preach the gospel to ourselves every day to remind us of His grace and to remind us that we need Him just as much today as we did before we were saved. We remind ourselves of the wonderful things God has done in our lives.
The second thing is to pray in the Holy Spirit. Praying in the Holy Spirit will absolutely be the single most important thing, along with studying God's Word, that will lead to fruitfulness in our lives. I have found that in my own life, when I'm feeling empty or drained, usually i don't need a nap, I need to spend time in the presence of God, crying out to God, and letting Him pray through me. I have found that no matter the circumstance, the more we spend in His presence, the smaller our problems seem. Sometimes this takes time and continued prayer, but I assure you, there is no better place to get refreshed and to take our problems than to the only one who can give us the strength to get through them.
And third, he says to keep ourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ. Are you doubting God's love for you? I don't care how many times you have messed up, God will have mercy for you as you turn to him. Do not let the devil tell you that God doesn't love. God proved His love for you when He shed His blood for you. You have no need to doubt His love for your situation.
Let us let God build up our faith this week. He has so much strength He wants to give you, things He wants to show you, and faith to build into you. The question is, will you let Him?
