Currently, we are experiencing a change in seasons from winter to spring. As I write this, I am sitting on my couch with the windows open, listening to the birds chirping, and feeling the wonderful breeze flow through my apartment with fresh air. It’s nice to wake up to the sun rising and the sound of life. Maybe this is just me, but it seems to be easier to wake up ready to conquer your day during spring than it is in winter. In the spring, we feel happier and joyful, and in the winter, sometimes it’s a little gloomier. We don’t feel as motivated, or ready to move on with our daily schedules. However, we have hope because we know seasons come and go and we know what comes after winter…SPRING!
Seasons are not just a part of God’s design for Mother Nature, seasons are a part of life. No matter what season it is outside, we go through seasons in life that give us good times and challenging times. There have been times where I feel that God is near me with every step I take, and we are rockin at doing life together. Then there have been times where I feel like God is not near and I do not see God or hear Him. During those times, I feel like I am walking through the dessert. I immediately try to help myself and run through the dessert season as fast as I can to get back on top of the mountain. I will never forget when someone asked me if it ever occurred to me that maybe God has placed me in the dessert season for a reason. I immediately stopped to think about it. All this time, I try to run to the next mountain top season as fast as I can, and all God wants me to do is surrender to Him.
Hosea 2:14-15 says, “Therefore I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her. There I will give her back her vineyards, and will make the Valley of Achor (trouble) a door of hope. There she will sing as in the days of her youth, as in the day she came up out of Egypt.” God does send you through dessert seasons with a purpose. He wants you to surrender to Him because He wants to speak to you. He wants you to grow. You need to stop trying to hurry up and get to the other side because the grass seems to be greener. Embrace the season you are in, be brave, and be courageous. Be open to what God wants you to learn from it, and be ready to take your relationship to a deeper place of intimacy with Him. God may be preparing you for the next season He has for you. Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. He knows where you are going, you may not.
It’s like going back to the winter and spring seasons. In the dead of winter, when the windchill is -15 we are longing for spring to get here. Then when spring and summer come and the temps go up to the 90’s and 100’s, it gets a little hot, and we wish for cooler weather. It’s a cycle of hoping the next season will feel better. That’s what we do with the seasons God places us in sometimes. We are too focused on getting to the next season that we are not paying attention to what God is trying to do in our lives now.
So whatever season you are in, don’t waste your time running to the next season without realizing God’s purpose for the season you are in now. Use your time by running to the throne room and spending time in God’s presence surrendering yourself to Him. He has you here for a purpose, so embrace it!
