You must be thinking I'm a little confused. What does grain have to do with Easter, right?
In John 12:20-23 it says....
20Some Greeks who had come to Jerusalem for the Passover celebration 21paid a visit to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee. They said, “Sir, we want to meet Jesus.” 22Philip told Andrew about it, and they went together to ask Jesus. 23Jesus replied, “Now the time has come for the Son of Manl to enter into his glory. 24I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives.
Now there is a whole lot to discuss in this passage, but I would like to focus and describe further on that word picture image in verse 24. As long as a grain of wheat keeps on being a kernel in the head of a stalk of wheat, it remains just that: a lone kernel of wheat among many such kernels. Only when it is detached from the head and buried into the ground by a farmer does it have an ability to reproduce. Did you know that one grain/kernel of wheat can produce a head with about 50 grains? Now if you plant those 50 grains/kernels you would get 2500 grains. Then take those 2500 grains/kernels and it would produce 125,000 grains. If you continue the pattern, The yields have the potential to reach far beyond billions and trillions! Yet remember, it all starts with the one kernel/grain!!
This passage reveal an Easter message to me. Jesus speaks the spiritual purpose of his death and resurrection. He, and he alone as Son of man, Son of God is the kernel that dies and gets buried. He is given new life, raised from beneath the ground, just like a new plant sprouts and grows from the "dead" wheat kernel. Then, what is the greatest glory is his ability to bring multiplication of life through his death!! Just like a single grain of wheat produces many new kernels. Not only is Jesus given new life, but he will bear a yield of great numbers of people who no longer stay dead in their trespasses, but can have new life through the cross!! Generation after generation will be added to the harvest for God's Kingdom. Yet remember.....IT ALL STARTED WITH ONE MAN........JESUS,.HALLELUJAH !!!!
Prayer: Thank-you Heavenly Father for sending your one an only son to die for the sins of all mankind. Thank you Jesus for producing eternal life for us through your death. We celebrate and are in awe of love and sacrifice for us. May you be glorified and praised , Amen!
