What Do You Treasure?

My husband and I recently attended some storage unit auctions. There were about 30 people in attendance. We all excitedly anticipated the cutting of the lock, allowing the door to open. Each bidder is allowed a quick scan of the contents before the bidding begins. What was once someone else's belonging, (that may have taken years to acumulate) is sold in a matter of minutes. The highest bidder securing the chance to hopefully discover some unique and valued treasure inside. MATTHEW 6:19-20 SAYS “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also The passage above is referring to our heart as the affective center of our being". It reflects our moral prefences. The decisions we make are in direct correlation to the desires of our heart we have allowed to be indulged. Our recent purchase of a few storage units , showed me how easy it is to determine what the moral preferences were of the individuals who owned the contents. We discovered several Plastic totes filled with hundreds of DVDS. There were many categories represented, Action movies, Horror flicks , Sci Fi thrillers, Comedies, etc. The overwhelming majorith were described as having innapproriate content and language. Sadly, we found only a handful with redeemable or integrity qualities. My heart began to grieve for the minds of the family who had viewed hours and hours of their worthless "treasure trove" collection. The goal of buying the storage units for us is to re-sell and make some money from the merchandise. We could have made a lot of money selling these videos. However, that would not be storing up Treasure in Heaven. It was a thrill to bring those DVDS to the dump, watch the skid loader scoop them up and see them get crushed in the compactor!!! We did not look at it as a missed financial gain, but an opportunity to turn the table on Satan. The value of protecting a human heart is worth far more than monetary gain. On that day, Satan's influence to shape people's moral preferences toward evil was broken stolen, and destroyed! I'M glad God allowed us , and not someone else, to be the ones who had the winning bid that day!
